WHO WE ARE AND ABOUT LEVENSHULME COMMUNITY CENTRE
We set ourselves up in 1995 to campaign for our community centre for Levenshulme.
The building is a old labour
exchange, built in the 1920s in timber. Whilst it provided a local service
for parents and children, it was so run down as to be unsafe, uneconomic, and
possible dangerous for the people who use it.
The building was finally demolished in October 2006
A new building will cost
many thousands of pounds, but with the support of local people, the City Council
and the community organisations around us, one day we are confident of success.
Until then we try to encourage those already giving their time and energy to keeping the voluntary spirit alive, by recognising the work they do. More important than a building is the people that use it.
Our management committee is made up of local residents, and affiliated local organisations. The Association works according to a Constitution, and receives occaisional funding from the city council, from other grants and from donations.
Equal Opportunities Statement
The Association intends to develop an Equal Opportunities Policy with
positive action at its heart. The Association has resolved to promote a culture
within all its activities which recognises, respects and responds to the specific
needs of individuals and groups. There is a duty on the Association to challenge
oppression and implement actions and regulations that promote equality of opportunity.
